FAITH & HOPE passing light vessel, photograph

View of pilot cutters FAITH and HOPE passing the English and Welsh Grounds light vessel, about 1910.

The Barry pilot cutter HOPE was built 1899-1900 by John Bowden at Porthleven, Cornwall, for Pilot Henry Charles Edmunds (1852-1925) of Barry who held a double pilot licence for Barry and Newport, who in 1902 sold the vessel to Pilot Sam Davies. Information on the vessel’s later ownership is conflicting, one note stating that she was sold to Bristol pilots in 1914 and another note stating that it is believed that she was sold to a Cardiff pilot.
