Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Badge

Thomas Fattorini (Manufacturer)

Badge worn by Mark Ashton, co-founder of Lesbians and Gay Men Support the Miners (LGSM). LGSM was founded by Mark Ashton and Mike Jackson to support striking miners during the 1984-85 miners’ strike. The London branch twinned with the Neath, Dulais and Swansea Valley Miners’ Support Group, which embraced several collieries from the three valleys. LGSM members were presented with badges by miners from collieries in the area.

This badge may be for the Communist Party of Luxemburg. Mark was a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, and General Secretary of the Young Communist League, so he probably acquired this badge in connection with these groups.

Metal pin badge showing hammer and sickle with letters 'PCL' in red enamel.
