Witham, Joseph (Born 1832 in Bognor Regis, the son of a cabinet maker. He initially earned his living as a mariner and his early love of the sea remained with the artist throughout his life.)

The ANNE THOMAS was the second vessel built to the order of Evan Thomas, Radcliffe & Co. Ltd., Cardiff, where the vessel was registered. She was completed in 1882 at Palmers' Shipbuilding & Iron Co. Ltd.’s famous yard at Jarrow on the Tyne. Sold to Norwegian owners in 1905, she continued to trade until 1920.
