Bronze Age Gold from Wales
Middle Bronze Age gold flange-twisted bar torc
This is large circular torc. The bar of gold has been hammered into ‘flanges’ and then twisted clockwise to create a ‘flange twisted’ form. The terminals of the bar are plain and circular-section and slightly expand towards a convex end creating a conical form. These were soldered onto the bar and are hooked around each other, completing the circle of the torc.

Find Information
Site Name: Central Wales, Wales
Notes: Associated find. The torc was found with a Middle Bronze Age palstave in a cellar in Aberystwth in the mid-1960’s. It is believed that the two were found while burying dead livestock, but the finder had died fifteen years previous so confirmation of the association is not possible.
