Bronze Age Gold from Wales

John Parry (1724-1797) of Wernfawr, Caernarvonshire was educated at Cambridge and Lincoln's Inn, and became Attorney General for North Wales and Constable of Conway Castle in 1769. He was elected MP for Caernarvonshire in 1780. Despite the political support of the powerful Lord Bulkeley, his ambition of a Welsh judgeship was thwarted by Lord Thurlow, the Lord Chancellor. The coat of arms and the fictive oval surrounding the portrait are archaic features in this work, which probably dates from the 1750s.
