Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Teapot and cover

Teapot, hard-paste porcelain, inset base, bulbous body, short curving spout moulded to resemble a tree trunk, loop handle with slight tree trunk like moulding, to the body of the teapot around the base of the spout and the upper and lower terminals of the handle are raised moulded roses and leaves, round flat cover with to the top a finial modelled in the form of a flower bud with a stem and leaves; finely painted in polychrome enamels with to one side of the exterior body of the teapot a duck swimming in a patch of water, and to the other side a group of chickens pecking at the ground, around the upper body of the teapot and the rim of the cover a rococo border with a flowered trellis pattern in puce enclosed by a band of yellow scrolls, the spout and handle splashed with green, the moulded roses on the teapot and the flower bud finial painted in violet and green. A large chip missing from the underside of the flange of the cover.
