Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Penydarren ironworks, photograph

Contact print made from a glass negative (whereabouts unknown) showing the Penydarren Iron Works from the north east in summer 1876. The blast furnaces on the left had been disused for over a decade but the iron forges and rolling mills in the distance had been restarted in 1869 and the blowing engines on the right had been refurbished in the early 1870s in the hope of relighting the furnaces. However the blast furnaces were never relit and the works closed in 1875.
