Pickle dish

Pickle dish, earthenware, in the form of a cinquefoil leaf with shaped flat base and curving sides spreading out at the top, a serrated edge to the rim, to one end of the dish a short curving stem; transfer-printed in underglaze blue with the 'Italian' pattern, to the well a landscape with classical ruins by the side of a river, a seated figure and lambs in the foreground, to the rim a border of foliage and scrollwork against plain blue, striped and spiral pattern grounds.
