Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Inkstand

unknown (Manufacturer)

Slate desk inkstand inscribed 'Aberllefenny 1890'.

A rectangular slate desk set, with two cut glass bottles on the top. Both bottles have brass lids. The base has two drawers, each opening on opposite sides of the base. The drawers have small wooden handles for opening. One drawer is a single drawer, while the other is divided in the centre to create two storage spaces within the drawer. The base is made of slate – believed to be slate from Aberllefenni – and is intricately carved. There are four holes in the four corners of the bottom of the base, indicating that possibly at one time the base would have had feet. There are two large screws on the bottom of the base which help support the base.
