Bronze Age Gold from Wales

XIPHIAS (painting)

Portrait of a barque. Unsigned and undated. Framed.

Relatively little is known about this three-masted barque. She was built in New Brunswick, Canada in 1856, one of a large number of Canadian-built vessels purchased by British owners in the mid 19th century. The Xiphas was built for Davies and Co of Cardiff, chiefly for the coal trade to South America.
