Royal Navy No.1 Dress

Jacket part of Royal Navy No.1 dress worn by John Callaghan, an engineer (Leading Hand) on H.M.S. GLAMORGAN during the Falklands War. Black jacket with gold buttons and two badges right sleeve (engineer and diver) with rank insignia left arm and medal bar of South Atlantic Medal with rosette sewn above breast pocket-left breast with maker's label sewn inside right breast.

H.M.S. GLAMORGAN. County-class destroyer laid down September 1962 and launched 1964 by Vickers-Armstrong, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Commissioned by the Royal Navy in October 1966. She underwent a major arms refit in 1977-79 including construction of accomodation for her on-board Wessex helicopter. SHe had another refit in 1982 following damage sustained by the enemy in the Falklands War. 1986 – Decommissioned, and sold to the Chilean Navy and renamed ALMIRANTE LATORRE, where she served until 1998. She was sold for scrap in 2005 and sank at sea while under tow to be broken up.
