Bronze Age Gold from Wales
Llewellyn
GRIFFITH, James Milo (1843-1897)
Probably identical with the 'Medallion head in marble', dated 1870 in the artist's inventory. The subject is Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (d.1282), the last Welsh prince. It may be a pair to Griffith's 'Alto relievo, Head of Boadicea' exhibited in Cardiff in 1870. Llywelyn and Boadicea are among the statues of Welsh heroes at Cardiff City Hall, inaugurated in 1916.
