Pattern letter

Intertype Ltd. pantograph matrix 'B'. Matrix refers to the mould in which letters are cast, this object what mid C20 textbooks term a ‘pattern letter’. This pattern was then placed in a punch cutting machine (incorporating a pantograph) used to cut the punch from which the matrices were punched in a matrix punching machine.
