Mug, glazed earthenware, straight sided, cylindrical mug with an inset base and rectangule profile handle with simple scroll; the cup has a bluish glaze, the body is transfer printed in underglaze blue with the Bute coat of arms, beneath which is a banner inscribed with a dedication to John Earl of Dumfries, beneath the rim are three evenly spaced hand-painted bands, the first in blue, followed by orange, the third repeated in blue, a single band of blue paint is situated at the interior rim, the handle has a vertical, tapering band of blue paint at its longest edge.
