Dish, vegetable, and cover

Vegetable bowl and cover, earthenware, Midwinter's 'Fashion' shape F21, the bowl with a circular inset base, rounded, open sides extending to form a square-shaped 'rim' with rounded corners, the cover domed and with a simple, integral semi-circular knop with convex sides ('grip handle'); the bowl is decorated with a semi-matt black glaze on the interior and exterior and the cover is left in the white with a clear glaze, the cover is transfer-printed with the 'Nature Study' pattern of six evenly-spaced motifs in black, excecuted in a hand-drafted, sketchy style, comprising a butterfly, dragonfly, two large leaves and two small leaves.

1931 - 2020 Conran founded the Conran Design Studio in 1956 and later the Habitat chain of home furnishings stores that revolutionised the UK High Street in the 1960s and 1970s. Conran founded the Design Museum in London and was Provost of the Royal College of Art 2003-2011.
