Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Block

Double sheave block used to withdraw drainage plug from bed of Swansea Canal at Pontardawe. It was used to draw the cone-shaped cast iron drain plug from the bed of the cnal over the Upper Clydach aqueduct. The block was hung from Herbert Street bridge, and a rope ran through the block to the chain on the canal drain plug.
