Monteith

The montieth stands on a shallow moulded foot, the hemispherical bowl being raised from a simple piece of silver, the shallow outward curving sides are divided into eight panels with matted flutes. Flat-chased with chinoiserie ornament comprising a warrier holding (?) a lantern, a robed figure with parasol by a flowering branch, a robed figure with a book between a spired structure and a bush, sun above a robed figure by a tree, a bird above a robed figure by an arcade, a robed figure seated under a canopy with a fan, a large fountain, and a warrior with a halberd; lip writhen waved notches and an applied border of acanthus and beads. Rim split repaired and a strengthening rib added at an earlier date. Interior engraved with crest of an eagle displayed on a cap of esteve within foliage sprays.
