STEER, Philip Wilson (1860-1942)
Steer was a leading representative of Impressionism in England and his students at the Slade School of Art included Augustus and Gwen John and J.D.Innes. This is the first of several paintings of Lilian Montgomery. Not a professional model, she is here aged fourteen and dressed in Paris high fashion of 1904.
