CHARLOTTE RHODES, film negative

Sailing vessel CHARLOTTE RHODES at Roath Dock Basin, Cardiff.

She was built as the Danish trading schooner METAJAN in 1904 by F.J Hoffman of Fjellbruen. She ran aground off Langesund, Norway in October 1964 while bound for a fertilizer works on the Skienfjord, but was refloated without damage. Acquired by English owners, she was brought to Dartmouth where she re-rigged as a traditional 3-mast square rigged top-sail schooner and as such was regularly seen in the Bristol Channel in her starring role in the BBC series 'The Onedin Line'. She was completely gutted by fire and lost at Amsterdam in 1977.
