Bronze Age Gold from Wales

The morning after the storm

Throughout his life Turner painted maritime scenes. His late works, with their subtle and profound observation of the effects of light on water and atmosphere, foreshadow the discoveries of the Impressionists. This seascape of 1840-45 and its companion picture, 'The Storm', were apparently inspired by the great storm of 21 November 1840.
