Visit to Newport Docks by Rt. Hon. Peter Thomas, Secretary of State for Wales. VIP's inspecting repair work on the lock at Newport Docks.

Article from 'DOCKS' magazine, November/December 1970: 'The Secretary of State for Wales, Rt Hon. Peter Thomas QC, MP, pays a flying visit to the South Wales Ports on 2 October. Mr Thomas first of all visited Newport Docks where he saw repair work in progress at the South Lock. Accompanied by Mr Raymond Cory, the Board's vice-chairman, who is also chairman of the South Wales Local Board, and by T.S. Roberts, Port Director for South Wales. Mr Thomas continued his tour by helicopter, landing at Cardiff, Barry and Swansea. At Cardiff he inspected development plans at the port director's office before going around the docks and then lunching with Local Board members and docks officials. The party then flew on to Barry where Mr Thomas toured the docks before taking off again for Swansea. Enroute, they flew over Port Talbot Harbour. The tour concluded at Swansea Docks with a visit to the Ferryport and other dock installations.'
