Farrier Harris Oxworth and his assistant Tommy Walters shoe one of the many colliery horses at Tylorstown No 9 Pit, 1914. Most collieries had several hundred horses at work and most of the shoeing took place in underground stables. The ostler was a very important official keeping the horses fit and ready for work.
