Bronze Age Gold from Wales

A view in Glamorganshire

DEVIS, Anthony (1729-1816)

This painting is a pendant to 'A View on the River Neath in Glamorganshire.' A likely identification of the view as Britton Ferry is suggested by the boat carrying horses and passengers. In 1815, Thomas Rees wrote that at Britton Ferry 'nature and art...are co-operating to spread before the observer, scenes of the most bewitching enchantment.'
