ss JAMES SWAN (7176gt) : Built 1944 by Southeastern Shipbuilding Corporation, Savannah, Georgia (engine by Joshua Hendy Ironworks, Sunnyvale , California) for the US War Shipping Administration, managed by South Atlantic Steamship Line,Savannah. 1951 – Sold to Standard Steamship Co., Dover, Delaware (under the US flag) and renamed QUARTETTE. On 17th December 1952, she became stranded on Pearl & Hermes Reef, 90 miles east of Midway, and broke in two, becoming a Total Constructive Loss. (Mariners-l.co.uk)
