Bronze Age Gold from Wales

G.W.R. 12-ton jib crane

A hand-operated dockside crane which was used in the buoy bay alongside East Dock to hoist the buoys ashore. In use on this work for a very long period.

Dismantled into 3 parts. 1996.128 (1) - crane. 1996.128 (2) & (3) - platform in two parts.

The crane was installed in the West Bute Dock by the Great Western Railway in the 1920s and its principal function was to lift navigation buoys out of the water for repair and maintenance.
