National Coal Board Certificate for Long & Meritorious Service Presented to Jas. Smallcombe in recognition and appreciation of 53 years loyal and efficient service to the Mining Industry and the Country. Undated, but c.1952.

James Smallcombe was born in 1887 in Garndiffith. He began work aged 13 at Blaenavon Pit. He later worked in Buck's Level abnd Tirpentwys Colliery. They called his Jas at work because there were so many men called Jim.
