Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Fan engine from Aberbeeg South Colliery, Crumlin

Reader, single cylinder inverted vertical steam-driven fan engine of the piston valve, self-lubricating, totally enclosed type. Serial number '10141'. Operated at 150 rpm, and drove a 6' diameter "Keith" fan. In use at Aberbeeg South Colliery from 1924. This kind of engine was used throughout the South Wales collieries to power small ventillating fans.
