Carbide lamp

Miner's carbide acetylene safety lamp recovered from sump of Penallta Colliery Shaft in 1978 during shaft deepening works. It probably dates from when the shaft was originally sunk c.1905.

Steel bonnet protecting gauze with small gauze to protect wick and five brass pillars into steel base with two hinge hooks and brass dial with three points 'A' 'O' 'Z' on l/h side of makers plate and loop(retractable).
