A complete cornice-brick, found sealed beneath the phase III (c. A.D. 100/110) paving of the drain at Caerleon fortress baths. It was formed initially in a sanded mould; the upper flat was trimmed by wire or knife, and finger-swirls and a legionary stamp were applied (the stamp is classed as Boon's (1984) type 4.i.1); the shaped end was formed by cutting with wire or knife; and not in a mould. This is the only example of a cornice-brick from the Fortress Baths.
Site Name: Caerleon Fortress Baths, Caerleon
Notes: from the site of the frigidarium at the baths
