EDITH ELEANOR, full hull ship model

Owen, H.

Scale model (¼" to 1') of the schooner EDITH ELEANOR. Hull of 'bread and butter' construction.

Schooner EDITH ELEANOR (105gt) was the last wooden sailing vessel to be built at the port of Aberystwyth. Completed in 1881, by J. Worrall and Co. for D.C. Roberts & Co., Aberystwyth, she was traded regularly to the Mediterranean. The National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth has an identical painting in its collections; proving that these ship portraits were 'mass produced' for sale to seamen. She was sold in 1917 and re-registered at Wexford, Ireland. She was employed in home waters. Foundered about 80 miles north west of the Longships in July 1921. Yr Edith Eleanor (105gt) oedd y llong hwylio olaf i'w hadeiladu yn Aberystwyth ym 1881, cynnyrch cwmni J. Worrall ar gyfer D.C. Roberts & Co., Aberystwyth. Bu'n hwylio'n gyson i Fôr y Canoldir. Ceir lun tebyg yng nghasgliad y Llyfrgell Genedlaethol yn Aberystwyth, sy'n profi i nifer ohonynt cael eu paentio ar yr un pryd i werthu i forwyr. Fe'i gwerthwyd ym 1917 a'i hail-gofrestru yn Wexford, Iwerddon. Cafodd ei gyflogi mewn dyfroedd cartref. Suddwyd tua 80 milltir i'r gogledd-orllewin o'r Longships yn Gorffennaf 1921.
