Bench/work table made from railway wagon sides and sleepers nailed together.
Bench/work table made from pieces of scrap wood nailed together. The top is made from two (125mm) thick pieces of wood that may have been railway sleepers or wagon sides. There is a 15mm thick plank of wood (in two parts) between the two parts of the work top that projects 260mm from the end of the bench with three nails protruding from its end. The front of the bench has one square and one circular recess cut into it with holes through the centre of both. The wood is very clean in these recesses sugessting the wood was covered by machines fixed to the bench. On the front of the bench is a strip of galvanized iron bent so that it creates a square hole when nailed against the front of the bench.
