Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
These are poorly preserved remains from the inhumation burial of a younger child (1-2 years).
The burial is from Phase I: 774-1131 AD
They were buried in a supine position in a simple grave oriented North-South A N-S orientation is very rare in the Early Medieval with only 2.1% of Five Mile Lane cemetery burials in this alignment. Of the 8 N-S aligned burials, only 2 are adults (both female), the other 6 are young children.
The burial is associated, by proximity, to SK101, SK107, SK119, SK137. All of these skeletons are infants, three are buried in the same odd N-S orientation, meaning half of the children oriented N-S are buried in the same location. SK101: N-S, infant (phase J) SK105: N-S, infant (phase H) SK107: N-S, child (phase I) SK119: SW-NE, child (phase G) SK137, W-E, infant (phase D)
