Cot quilt

Lewis, Katy (née John) (Katy Lewis (nee John), 1912-2002. Born in Abertridwr, near Caerphilly. She learnt to quilt when she was about 17 years old at a class established by the Rural Industries Bureau. From about 1939 until the mid-1950s, she taught quilting at evening classes.)

Wholecloth cot quilt made by Katy Lewis (nee John) in 1987. The quilt was made for the Museum and the process was documented in a series of photographs. The maker was taught to quilt in Abertridwr during the 1930s as part of a scheme established by the Rural Industries Bureau.

Peach coloured cotton (both sides) with polyester wadding. Hand quilted with white cotton thread. Quilting pattern consists of a large six petalled floral motif (known as the 'Abertridwr rose') and spirals on diamond field with trellis filling. Outer border of leaves.
