Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
White polyethylene jumpsuit produced to promote the Welsh language television channel S4C in the months leading-up to its launch on 1 November 1982. Worn by presenter Sian Thomas at the National Eisteddfod in Swansea, August 1982. Machine sitiched in red, with centre-front zip, and the S4C logo printed on breast pocket.
White Tyvek® suit, made from polyethylene non-woven fibres. It is full-length but sleeves and trouser legs are currently rolled up to elbows and knees. Construction of torso: front made from two parts, left and right (including sleeves), fastened with a metal zip set in red twill fabric; rear also made from 2 parts with a central, vertical seam down the back. Separate collar. Each trouser leg is made from a single piece of Tyvek, with seams at inner legs. Patch pockets at both hips with upper outer corners trimmed off diagonally for accessing the pocket, another patch pocket on left chest with the red-printed logo of S4C and 'Sianel Pedwar Cymru' below; Tyvek material above and below rear waist is gathered into horizontal waist seam which is elasticated on the inside. Pockets are applied with machine made running stitches using red thread and all other stitches are overlocking stitches (using red thread) visible on the outside of the garment, apart from the waist seam which faces inwards. Self-adhesive care label at inner neck.
NB the purpose of wearing a Tyvek suit is to provide a barrier of protection against microbial penetration - preventing hazardous materials including asbestos, mold, fiberglass and lead from passing through the material.
