Lithograph of Caradog.
Caradog was a charismatic conductor from Aberdare. He led a choir from south Wales to victory in a competition at London’s Crystal Palace in July 1872 & 1873. The South Wales Choral Union - 'Côr Mawr' was a huge choir made up of 12 smaller choirs, about 460 people. They came from as far afield as Llanelli, Swansea, Merthyr and Rhondda. A statue was erected in his honour in Victoria Square, Aberdare and was designed by Sir William Goscombe John.
