Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Red and white vertically striped Newport County AFC away shirt, 2025-6. Inspired by the the colours of Athletico Bilbao in tribute to the cultural and historical links between Wales and the Basque Country.
During the Spanish Civil War, 56 Basque children were evacuated to Caerleon, where they were provided safety by local residents. The Newport County shirt commemmorates this act of solidarity, incorporating the names of the children and the adults who cared for them. A label on the shirt reads: 'In 1937, when the Basque people needed help, Wales responded'.
