Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
A blacksmith's tool used to flatten hot metal from the forge. It comprises an iron tool head and a long handle made from twisted hazel. The flat tool face was placed on the hot metal and the top then struck with a hammer.
It was placed on the work and struck with a sledge-hammer. The craft requires very few basic tools, but which can be made in an infinite variety of sizes. It was traditional for the blacksmith to make his own tools, starting with the basic type and adding to them when the occasion demanded.
