¾ port bow view of S.S. HELLENIC CHRYSSOULA, Cardiff Docks, c. 1948.

ss. HELLENIC CHRYSSOULA (1441gt). Built 1910 as BONDICAR by John Crown & Son, Sunderland, for Broomhill Collieries (Broomhill Steamships Ltd., Newcastle). 1930 – Owners restyled as Broomhill Steamships Ltd., Newcastle. Her WWII record (1939 – 44) lists 71 voyages along the East Coast of the UK, including four collisions. 1947 – Sold to China Hellenic Lines, Greece, and initially renamed CHRYSSOULA, and later that year, HELLENIC CHRYSSOULA. On 10th March 1950, she collided with the American steamship STEEL RECORDER while en route from Alexandria. Her stem was crushed and her anchor lost. The ship arrived at Newport (Gwent?) on 4th June 1954 for breaking up. From (Sunderland Site) NOTE – Sunderland site (searlecanada.com)states date of collision as 3rd October1950 (a reversal of date indices).
