S.S. HERMISTON (4813gt). Built 1939 by Short Brothers, Pallion, Sunderland, as HERMISTON for Carlton Steamship Co. (R. Chapman & Sons), Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. 1960 - Sold to Pan Norse Steamship Co. SA, Panama and renamed NEGRO TRADER. 1966 - Sold to a Kien An Steamship Co., Panama, and renamed KIEN AN. She ran aground off Kikizaki, Japan, on 16th December 1967 and was wrecked with a loss of five lives from her crew of 38, while on a voyage from Thailand to Naoetsu with a cargo of manganese.
