A cast iron gate post, one of a pair which stood both ends of an iron gate. It is a hanging post with two hooks on which the gate was hung. The top hook is in the shape of the letter L. The bottome hook is of a different design, comprising four vertial rods in an iron plate. Grooves in the gate hinge fitted between the four rods. Holes along the length of the post allowed the positioning of the hooks to be varied. The lower third of the post is widere and was in the ground beneath the surface when it was in use. At the top of the post is a small dome. The hanging post was used with a smaller receiver post and an iron gate on farmland owned by the Plymouth Estate at St Fagans.
