Austin "Pathfinder" pedal car which takes the form of a single seat Racing Car. Good original condition with original seat, steering wheels, dials etc. In British Racing green with red wheels and 'radiator'. We understand from the vendor that this was repainted perhaps 40 or 50 years ago.
The Pathfinder was based on the Austin 7 racing car. It was manufactured only during 1949 and 1950, and was offered for sale from 1949 to 1951.
Disabled ex-miners made this pedal car at the Austin Motor Company Ltd Junior Car Factory in Bargoed, south Wales, 1949-50. They based the design on a pre-Second World War racing car. About 200 rolled off the production line each week. The factory opened in July 1949 to provide work for miners with a lung condition caused by coal dust.
