Teapot, earthenware, standing on a spreading rounded foot-rim, globular body sloping inwards at the shoulder, flaring collar-like lip-rim with inner flange, curving spout with a moulded shell to the base of the spout and the top of the spout, the handle broken off, round conical domed cover with a disk-shaped finial to the top of it, a pierced steam hole to one side of the cover; transfer-printed in blue with to the exterior sides of the teapot 'The Rhine' pattern, an Italianate landscape showing an expanse of water surrounded by trees and Italianate buildings with several small buildings and a group of travellers in the foreground, a scaled down version of the same pattern to the base of the spout, border to the shoulder and lip-rim of the teapot and the rim of the cover of arcades and stylized geometric foliate motifs on a blue ground, a scale blue pattern to the top of the spout and the finial of the cover.
