S.S. OSCAR GORTHON, glass negative

Starboard broadside view of S.S. OSCAR GORTHON, 17 November 1947.

The Oscar Gorthon was a steamer of 1,814 gross tons built at Fredrikstad, Norway, in 1939 for the Gorthon Shipping firm of Helsingborg in Sweden. She was built to the 'boilers on deck’ design adopted by many Scandinavian shipowners in which the boilers were placed above the engines at main deck level to maximize cargo space. She was broken up in Greece in 1971, but the company for whom she was built remain in business as shipowners today.
