Mesolithic antler mattock

Antler object formed from the beam of a red deer antler the base of which is sheared away at an oblique angle to form a scoop-like end. The trez tine has been broken off and the edges smoothed down. 95mm above the break a circular perforation 23mm in diameter has been made. One side of the object has signs of wear around the perforation and near the scoop.

Made of red deer antler perforated above the trez tine and truncated to form a blade parallel to the shaft-hole. The blade is badly damaged but smoothing by apparent use is visible.
