CAMBRIAN HILLS (painting)

unknown

Starboard view of the three masted barque CAMBRIAN HILLS at sea. Unsigned and undated.

The three-masted ship Cambrian Hills was built by A. Rodger and Co. of Port Glasgow in 1892 for Thomas Williams and Co. of Liverpool. Captain Williams was formerly the marine superintendent of the famous ‘Black ball Line’ before he became a shipowner in the early 1870s. He died in 1880, and in 1896-97 his fleet was taken over by another Liverpool Welsh shipowner, William Thomas. The Cambrian Hills sprang a leak and capsized off the Scilly Isles in March 1905.
