Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Holywell Hunt coat; frock coat made from red woollen fabric (tabby woven with raised nap) & red velvet collar; sleeves are lined with white tabby-woven linen fabric. Front and sides of tails partly lined with red wool fabric (same as outer); rear not lined. 9 gold-coloured buttons on proper right side with matching buttonholes on other side, each of these surrounded by decorative stitching using gilt metal thread. Similar metal thread embroidery on velvet collar. 4 further buttons on tail: 2 at top, 2 at bottom, buttons have monogram 'HH' (= Holywell Hunt) within a circle of guilloche pattern. 9cm wide turn-up at cuffs. Black felt interlining underneath semi-circular strip of red wool fabric lining, surrounding rear neck (held in place with decorative quilting stitches). Red fabric is mainly worked with raw edges (no turn-backs). XVIIIth century style. (note: card label attached to coat suggests 1878 - ??)
