Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Ribbed sword-grip, probably from a legionary gladius; only half remaining and split longitudinally. The naturally hollow interior of the metapodial has been filed open towards both ends to admit the tang. Externally very highly polished, with the usual four facetted finger-grips (and originally octagonal in section). Both ends are sawn, filed and subsequently polished in part, perhaps in use.
Site Name: Museum Garden, Caerleon
Notes: From Well 1, upper fill
