Pole lathe
A pole lathe used by James Davies, one of the well-known Davies turners of Abercuch, Pembrokeshire. The length of wood to be shaped was fitted horizontally between two points. It was turned by pressing a treadle, attached by a strap to a pole. The spring of the pole pulled the treadle back up, turning the wood again against the shaping tool.
