Seaspeed Ferries opened a freight only ro-ro service between Barry and the Irish Republic in March 1973 with an initial three sailings a week provided by the M.V. SEASPEED FERRY. The introduction of her sister vessel SEASPEED TRAILER on 17 September enabled a daily service to flourish. This service was accomodated at a new berth at No.3 Dock Basin provided by the Docks Board to enable a quicker turn around.
