Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Small square shaped handkerchief made from a single piece of thin red silk. It has a border of white cotton, machine made lace featuring a zigzag and flower pattern. The lace is 3.5cm wide and is mitred at the corners. It is sewn to the silk and joined at the corners by machine using a zigzag stitch in white cotton thread. The handkerchief is decorated with a small hand embroidered patch worked on white muslin using coloured silk floss threads in a combination of satin and back stitches. The design features a basket of flowers in red, blue, yellow and green and the words TO MY DEAR MOTHER in red silk. The patch is joined to the handkerchief with a wiggly line of chain stitch around the edge in white silk thread.
